About Our Team
Hi! I'm Alexa, the Owner and Founder of Smart Start Tutors, LLC. I am a certified Reading Interventionist, wife, and mom to twin 5 year old girls and a baby boy who make me laugh every day. We live in Maryland, right outside of Washington, D.C. I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. After attending the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, my husband and I decided to return to the D.C. area to raise our family.
Working with students 1-1 in reading and language arts is my passion. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher.
I hold a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education and an endorsement in grades 4th and 5th. In addition, I hold a Masters in Education specializing in Literacy Instruction for grades K-12th. During my time as a classroom teacher, I was lucky enough to work with students in a variety of grade levels. After leaving the classroom, I went on to earn an additional certification as a Reading Interventionist where I learned how to assess children in reading, identify their exact areas of need and build customized intervention plans in order to close the reading gap quickly and efficiently.
